Top Flooring Trends for 2025 — What GTA Homeowners Are Choosing
After more than 20 years installing flooring across Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Markham, Aurora, and the wider GTA, we've seen trends come and go. Here's what we're installing most in 2025, and why these choices are becoming so popular.
1. Wide-Plank Engineered Hardwood
The narrow 2.25" strip hardwood has largely given way to wide planks — 5", 6", and even 7"+ wide boards. Wide planks feel more contemporary, show more natural grain, and make rooms feel larger. Engineered hardwood is preferred for its dimensional stability in Ontario's humidity swings. Most popular species: white oak, European white oak, and hickory.
2. Waterproof LVP Everywhere
Waterproof Luxury Vinyl Plank has gone from a basement solution to a whole-home choice. GTA homeowners with kids, pets, or open-concept designs are choosing quality LVP for the entire main floor. The technology is good enough that guests often can't tell it's not real wood.
3. Matte and Low-Gloss Finishes
High-gloss hardwood finishes have fallen sharply out of favour. Matte and satin finishes dominate in 2025 — they show scratches and footprints less, photograph better, and feel more natural.
4. Warm, Earthy Tones
The grey flooring trend that dominated from 2012–2020 has wound down. What's replacing it is warm — honey oaks, warm browns, greige tones, and natural wood colours. If you're designing a Richmond Hill or Vaughan home now, move toward warm rather than cool tones.
5. Herringbone and Chevron Patterns
Pattern installations are back. Herringbone and chevron are showing up in entryways, kitchens, and statement living rooms. Both patterns require more material and more skilled installation, but the visual impact is significant. Available in both hardwood and LVT formats.
6. Sustainable and Certified Flooring
Environmental certification has moved to mainstream in the GTA market. Customers are asking about FSC-certified hardwood, recycled content in LVT, and FloorScore certifications. Brands like Interface, Tarkett, and Forbo — all suppliers we work with — lead in this area.
What's Out in 2025
- Cool grey tones
- High-gloss polyurethane finishes
- Narrow strip hardwood in new installations
- Carpeted main floors (carpet in bedrooms remains popular)
